President’s Message
January 2023
Normally I am anxious to put away the Christmas decorations before the start of the New Year. This year however I did not have that sense of urgency. I’m not sure if was an attempt to extend the holiday season, or a lack of energy to take on the task! As I did reorganize the storage area, it gave me time to look at my sewing area and reflect on the needs of quilters to maintain a certain level of fabric, frequently referred to as our ‘stash’. The challenge starting the new year is which project do I start next, and probably to reduce my stress level is the challenge of how do I curtail purchasing new fabric in 2023, when I already have shelves of bins with new projects waiting to be started. As we are well aware there are treatments available for other weaknesses in modern day, but thankfully, no organization has recognized the addiction of quilters to purchase fabric!
Last year at this time, due to government restrictions we were not able to have in person meetings, so we resorted to virtual meetings. As a result, we all became aware of the benefits of this format during the winter months. No one having to make the decision to cancel the meeting due to inclement weather and members having to leave the comfort of their warm homes. One major advantage is broadening the selection of speakers that are available for virtual meetings due to their locations. Our meetings this winter (from January to March) will be held virtually using the Zoom software. If you have any questions about the software, please contact us prior to Tuesday, January 17th and we can schedule a practice session prior to the day of the meeting.
I hope that you and your family are staying healthy. Looking forward to seeing you at our virtual meeting next Tuesday.
